Work is progressing nicely

It was back in October 2020 that we announced the exciting news that the pavilion was to be updated with the installation of a beautiful bay window to replace the scorebox.

The work is progressing nicely by Matt Steers & Son who were awarded the contract and we are delighted that it will be ready to be enjoyed by everyone when the season starts and as soon as the clubhouse is allowed to reopen.

In these difficult times, the club is extremely grateful to Peter and Ann Haynes for their vision and generosity to have this development completed,
for the benefit of all who visit Tring Park Cricket Club.

Peter Haynes first played for TPCC in 1967, continuing to play for many years, hanging up his pads at the tender age of 76. However, it just wasn’t on the field where he made his mark. Over the years, Peter was also involved in many roles at TPCC; Umpire ( at home and abroad), Chairman from 1978 until 1994 and President from 2014 until 2017. Currently he is an Hon VP we are very honoured to have the support of both Peter and Ann.

I caught up with both of them to understand more about their vision. Peter told me that he and Ann decided they wanted to give something back to the club and leave a legacy, while Peter was still with us. It was Ann's idea to open the sight lines from inside the building, enabling a breathtaking view of the entire main pitch. Ann had always thought that the club house was a little dark and uninviting and thought the addition of a new window would allow light to stream into the space, making it not just brighter but giving fabulous views across the grounds and a beautiful space to sit and while away an afternoon of watching cricket.

I was fortunate to visit the clubhouse on Saturday and I can let Peter and Ann know it certainly has made a massive difference already and that’s with the scaffolding still in place. Here is link to pictures showing the new Bay window area.

I’m confident that both parents and supporters will love the amazing view onto the main pitch, to watch their little one’s train on a Friday night or matches on the weekend.

I for one will look forward to sitting with Peter and Ann in this new space, looking out into the main pitch, listening to him recalling stories from his days at the club and a few umpiring tales!
